Abstract
Oligodendrogliomas are common cerebral tumors, however, they are rarely reported in the infratentorial region. Glioblastoma, the most common primary intracranial tumor, also usually arises in the supratentorial region and it rarely occurs in the posterior fossa. The authors report a case of glioblastomatous recurrence following a surgery of anaplastic oligodendroglioma in the posterior fossa. A 29-year-old male presented as headache and gait disturbance over 3 days. Brain magnetic resonance(MR) images showed cerebellar intra-axial mass, which was resected totally and confirmed as anaplastic oligodendroglioma. Two months after surgery, brain MR images were obtained and revealed an enhancing intra-axial tumor in the cerebellar hemisphere adjacent to the right cerebellopontine angle. Retromastoid approach was undertaken and tumor was resected subtotally. It was confirmed as glioblastoma pathologically. We report a rare case with cerebellar gliobalstoma following resection of cerebellar anaplastic astrocytoma and discuss with pertinent literatures.
